Fur~Baby Boutique is a new, unique store that offers different products and goals than the big named pet stores. Fur~Baby Boutique is an up-scale cat and dog boutique that focuses on eco-friendly, rescue friendly, organic and handmade items. The Boutique’s focus is to support local artist and small businesses while providing awareness for local animal rescues and saving lives.

Fur~Baby Boutique carries items made by local artist and businesses such as artwork, gourmet treats, custom pet accessories, handmade jewelry, rescue focused products, and one of a kind items that will not be found  anywhere else . The friendly staff is educated in various pet issues and ready to assist in finding exactly what your “fur-baby” needs. Items such as handmade collars and leashes are made with eco friendly hemp and organic fleece that can be customized.

Owner Sherry Shaffer focuses on helping local artists and introducing them to the community.   All natural antler dog chews and organic dog treats are made in Lewes, DE. Dog portraits, greeting cards, story books, and custom portraits are all done by an artist in Dover, DE. Hand carved wooden dog beds are painted by an artist in Millsboro,DE. Animal paintings are done by an artist in Dewey Beach, DE. Hand sewn “snuggle sacks” and blankets for pets who like to cuddle and handmade dog collar charms and necklaces are also made by local artist and found in the boutique.

The store itself, however, will do much more than just sell unique animal products. Fur~Baby Boutique will become a location for local animal rescue organizations to hold events, raise awareness, gather volunteers and collect donations. With many non-profit organizations in Delaware going under due to the economic recession it is difficult for these organizations to support themselves. Fur~Baby Boutique provides a free location for these groups to reach the community.  All purchases from Fur~Baby Boutique will help provide support for these local rescues. Volunteers are needed for these events, more information can be found on their website at http://fur-babyboutique.com/.

Fur~Baby Boutique will host monthly events that will include fundraisers, adoption days, and vaccination clinics. The store will also have cats and dogs that are available for adoption visiting the store for the day so that potential adopters can meet them. These events bring many people to downtown Milford from surrounding cities and states.  Sherry hopes that this will help drive people to the downtown Milford area and bring more attention to the other shops downtown. “Downtown Milford is going to be a dog friendly, rescue friendly, and a family friendly place to visit,” commented Sherry.

To find out more about this new business visit their website at www.fur-babyboutique.com, join their Facbook page by searching “Fur Baby Boutique” or stop in to say hello at 8 South Walnut Street. The Store hours will be Tuesday-Saturday 11-7pm. All well behaved, leashed animals are welcome.
