Haylee Scruggs on the mound to close out the State Tournament game where Milford was crowned State Champions.

The Milford Senior League Softball team won 7-4 against Pennsylvania in the first round of the Eastern Regional Tournament Saturday, July 28. Haylee Scruggs & Brea MacFarland combined pitching for the Milford team. Scruggs had 4 strikeouts, 2 runs, a single,a triple and 2 RBIs. Megan Fry scored 2 runs off of a walk & a single. Kasey Fry scored 1 with 2 singles & 2 RBIs. Brea MacFarland scored a run on a walk and Emily Messick , 1 double and 1 single also scored a run for Milford.

On Sunday, July 29th the Milford Senior girls played New York and lost a close game 0-2; seeing their first lost of the entire All-Star Tournament play. Haylee Scruggs & Brea MacFarland combined for pitching once again and had an outstanding game. Scruggs struck out 3 batters while allowing only 1 hit during her 4 innings of pitching, keeping the game tied 0-0. She also had a hit for Milford. Additional hits in Sunday’s game came from Kasey Fry, Jasmine Passwaters & Megan Fry with one hit each. New York scored their two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning on a sacrifice bunt and a Milford error.

One day after their only loss of District and State tournament play, Milford defeated New Jersey 4-1. On Monday, July 30, pitcher Haylee Scruggs held New Jersey scoreless until the top of the 6th as she pitched a complete game striking out 1 and giving up 5 hits. That lone hit was made by New Jersey’s catcher in the top of the 6th inning as she tagged up on third base on a fly ball hit to left field. Kasey Fry opened up the 2nd inning with a base hit, and upon multiple errors by New Jersey, was able to steal all 3 bases to score Milford’s first run of the game.

The Milford girls came back in the 5th inning as Jasmine Passwaters singled and Megan Fry issued a sacrifice bunt to move her to second base. Harley Rickards, who had a triple, single, and 1 RBI inMonday’s game, had an RBI to score Passwaters and take the lead. In the 6th inning Emily Messick stole second base and later advanced to third with a sacrifice bunt from Brea MacFarland. Kayla Brennan then hit a single to score Messick. Passwaters hit another single to advance Brennan on the bases and Megan Fry followed with an RBI which scored Brennan.

On Wednesday, August 1 the Milford Senior League Softball Team defeated Maryland to advance to the semi-final round of the Eastern Regional Tournament. Milford started out slow as they trailed Maryland 3-0 into the bottom of the 6th. With 1 out Harley Rickards got hit by a pitch and Haylee Scruggs got walked to put two players on base. In this moment the girls turned the game around. In the bottom of the 6th Kasey Fry had an RBI to score Rickards, Jenna Campbell had a hit to score Scruggs, Brea MacFarland had a hit to left field scoring Campbell and Kayla Brennan had a infield hit to score MacFarland. Before the inning was over Jasmine Passwaters hit a double and Megan Fry added another double scoring Passwaters, taking the lead over Maryland 7-5. Maryland scored 2 more runs in the top of the 7th but their last batter was called out as Scruggs caught the ball in deep center.

On Thursday, August 2, the Milford Senior League Softball Team defeated Connecticut 13-1 in the semi-final round to advance to the Eastern Regional Championship game.

This just in: Our Milford Senior League girls lost 3-0 in the championship game against New Jersey. They played hard and with all heart until the very end.
