Chances are if you have been to a Milford High School sporting event over the last three years, you have seen Vance Daniels play. Competing in track, football and basketball, Daniels was a star both on the athletic and academic arenas. On the hardwood Daniels played guard for this year’s DIAA qualifying playoff qualifying team. On the track, Daniels’ versatility had him running in numerous events, a key contributor in all of them. On the gridiron, Daniels was an electric running back, capable of going the distance at any moment. He was also a solid defensive back with ball-hawking skills, with big play ability.

With his Milford days now behind him, Daniels is poised for big things as he prepares to begin the next chapter of his life. Enrolled at Delaware State University (DSU) beginning this fall, Daniels is looking forward to continuing his growth in college. Catching up with Daniels, he took a moment to discuss his past and future.

While attending DSU Daniels will be studying computer science. The choice of DSU was a rather easy one. “Most of my family has attended Delaware State, so it was an easy decision for me to want to continue that tradition,”Daniels commented. “I am very familiar with the atmosphere there and think that it’s a place I will fit in well.”

While going to DSU promises to be a great time, Daniels fondly remember his time while at Milford. “Attending Milford was fantastic, it will always have a place in my heart,” said Daniels. “Going to Milford was like being part of a family, it was a great place to be a part of.” One aspect of Milford that Daniels found important is that many of his classmates will be also heading to college. “That’s one of the great things about Milford, the staff is always pushing us to achieve, to challenge ourselves to be better people.”

Daniels is hoping to continue his athletic pursuits while at DSU, planning on playing football and participating in track as well. In football Daniels projects at defensive back and with summer practice set to begin August 15th, Daniels has been working to get into shape. “It’s going to be very difficult to play in college so I have been really concentrating on getting into top shape. I have been working at Southern Delaware Physical Therapy in the program run by Dr. Carter,” Daniels said.

The program has been in place for a number of years and each summer former Milford athletes returning home for the off-season have used it to improve themselves. Talking with Carter, he believes that Daniels has what it takes to succeed. “Vance is a hard worker and a smart young man. He has tremendous leadership potential and the ability to do great things,” Dr. Carter stated.

Talking with Milford assistant coach Carlton Brown, he believes that the best of Daniels is yet to come. “Working with Daniels over the last year, I can see there is so much potential there,” Brown commented. “Vance has been working so hard to improve himself and I think that the results are going to show themselves. With all the work Vance has been putting in, there is very little doubt he will unlock a tremendous amount of potential.”

When asked who was most inspirational in his life he answered, “That is pretty easy, there is no doubt that my father has been the driving force in my life,” Daniels said. “My father has been there for me every step of the way, knowing that he is there for me is very important.”
