Kayla’s Journey to Las Vegas

Miss Delaware 2010, Kayla Martell, is about to have the experience of a lifetime, the opportunity to become Miss America 2011.  After six months of rigorous preparation, Kayla will begin the final steps to the prestigious crown with Preliminary Competitions, being held at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on January 11, 12, and 13.  The competition will culminate on Saturday, January 15 with “The 2011 Miss America Pageant” and the crowning of Miss America 2011.  The event will be broadcast live from Planet Hollywood & Casino, on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 9:00 pm EST on ABC.

Kayla has already been named one of eight finalists for the Quality of Life Award.  The winner will receive a $6,000 scholarship; the first runner-up will receive a $2,000 scholarship and the second runner-up a $2,000 scholarship.  Winners will be announced on January 14 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino during a 3:00 pm (PST) conference.  This award is to recognize contestants who excel in their commitment to community service.

This year, Delawareans and all those who support Kayla have the opportunity to help make this dream come true for her and for our state by voting for who you would like to see become Miss America 2011.  Miss America has posted videos of the 53 contestants, showing off their style and personality, and explaining why they should be chosen as the next Miss America.  There are four ways to vote:  (1) Using your mobile phone, text MADE (the abbreviations for Miss America DE), to 24470;  (2) Vote next to Miss Delaware’s video on www.MissAmerica.org/VideoContest;   (3) “Like” Miss America and then “Like” Miss Delaware’s video at www.Facebook.com/MissAmericaOrganization, under the Video Contest tab;  (4)  “Like” Miss Delaware’s video at www.YouTube.com/MissAmericaOrg.  You may vote once per voting method.  Voting will close at 2:59 a.m. EST on January 14, 2011, (11:59 p.m. PST on January 13, 2011).  Only votes cast through one of the official voting methods will count.  “Likes” on videos posted on other Facebook pages, personal Facebook profiles or any other website will not count toward the final tally.
