Governor Markell Visits Food Bank

Milford Branch Manager Crystal Timmons, Governor Markell, Jeanne Kenton and Representative Kenton

In honor of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Governor Jack Markell and Representative Harvey Kenton continued his legacy of volunteerism on the 25th Anniversary of the federal holiday.  The Food Bank of Delaware invited the two elected officials to join in their efforts in creating a community free of hunger.

In a weekly address to the residents of Delaware, Gov. Markell stated his commitment to volunteerism in the first state by quoting the great Dr. King. “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve.”  Governor Markell went on to recognize all Delawareans who have sacrificed in the name of volunteering for others.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Milford Food Bank of Delaware. To date volunteers at the Milford branch have donated over 11,000 hours.    Mrs. Timmons, Milford Branch Manager, admits that the food bank would not be able to feed so many people without the “support of our volunteers and the strength of our program.”  With a strong volunteer effort the Food Bank is looking forward to an expansion in the near future.
