House Fire on Gracie Lane

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined a house fire that occurred on February 17, 2011 in Milford, DE that severely damaged a home was accidental in nature.

The fire was reported by a passing motorist shortly after 5:00 pm yesterday in the 17000 block of Gracie Lane off Calhoun Rd southwest of Milford, DE in Sussex County. The Carlisle Fire Co of Milford responded to the call and arrived with heavy smoke and fire coming from the unoccupied dwelling. Assistance was requested with Houston, Ellendale, and South Bowers fire companies responding to the scene. The fire was placed under control at approximately 6:20 pm.

Deputy Fire Marshal’s investigated the fire and determined the fire originated at the home’s hot water heater. The home sustained heavy fire damage estimated at $175,000. One firefighter from the Carlisle Fire Co was transported to Milford Memorial Hospital by ambulance for smoke inhalation and was treated and released. No other injuries were reported. The family that resided in the home is being assisted by family members.
