The Milford Senior Center will be hosting its 4th annual gala on March 12, 2011, in the Center’s Crystal Ballroom, from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. This year’s fundraising event is Dancing with the Milford Stars. Borrowing the idea from the popular television show, members of the Milford community will be dancing with partners in order to raise funds for the Milford Senior Center. Local “stars” and their dancing partners are as follows:
Miss Delaware, Kayla Martell, and her partner Joe Tauber, Mayor Ronnie Rogers and his companion Ruth Rogers, Bob Walls with Taube Carpenter, Mike Mignogno with Trish Rodriquez, Skip Pikus with Leigh Minor, Bliss Soucek with Ernesto Riojas, and Kevin Redding with Laura Burton. The dancers have been training every Thursday night at the Milford Senior Center with instructor and choreographer for the event Maria Fry.
Kayla Martell, a recent finalist in the Miss America pageant, was Delaware’s representative this past January in Las Vegas. Her partner, Joe Tauber, is an attorney currently serving on the Milford Senior Center’s Board of Directors (MSC BOD).
Ronnie Rogers, recently re-elected Mayor of Milford, dances with Ruth Rogers, a previous member of the Milford Senior Center Board of Directors.
Bob Walls, former Delaware State Representative and current member of the MSC BOD and local businessman, takes to the dance floor with Taube Carpenter, Bob’s former campaign manager and community volunteer.
Mike Mignogno, President of the Milford Senior Center’s membership and member of the Board, enjoys a spin with Trish Rodriquez, statewide fundraiser for non-profit organizations.
Skip Pikus, longtime owner of Lou’s Bootery, City Councilman and community activist enjoys a turn with Leigh Minor, owner of Minor Bird, a recently opened boutique in downtown Milford.
Bliss Soucek, a local attorney who passed the bar exam on her first attempt and former Miss Delaware runner-up pairs up with Ernesto Riojas, a serviceman stationed at the Dover Air Force Base who also teaches ballroom dancing.
Kevin Redding, owner and chef of Abbott’s Grill in Milford, will twirl Laura Burton, who manages the Grill.
For this even the Milford Senior Center is predicting over 200 people in attendance. “We expect to have a lot of fun and a lot of laughs. It is so nice to see community leaders and business owners help out the Milford Senior Center,” commented Karen Lloyd, Executive Director of MSC. The Milford Senior Center is located at 111 Park Avenue in downtown Milford.

The cost of the $25.00 ticket (per person) and includes a variety of specialties for tasting from local restaurants, special stars and judges from the Milford community. The evening will also include musical entertainment, a silent auction and a cash bar.
