Milford Stands Up for Fitness

Staff Report

Bayhealth Medical and DelMarVa Board Sport Adventures have team up to implement a community fitness initiative for Milford, Delaware called Milford Stands Up for Fitness.  The program, which kicks off at this Saturday’s Bug & Bud Festival, is a 20 week journey of health and fitness information and fun.

Participants will travel through Milford with a “passport” experiencing weekly health and fun fitness offerings around town that are either free or drastically reduced.  The goal of the program is to get folks to try a new activity in an effort to help them work towards a healthier lifestyle as featuring all that Milford has to offer as a fit and healthy town.  Each week folks participate, they will receive a star in their passport which will be turned in at the end of the program for prize drawings.  Attend all 20 weeks or only the ones that interest you.

This Saturday, the first fitness offering is a chance to try a new sport that provides a fun core workout, Stand Up Paddle boarding.  This activity will be offered along the river walk.  Participant must know how to swim, they must wear a life jacket and must be of legal age to sign a participation waiver; or have a parent/guardian sign.  Minimum suggested age is 8.

Other weekly offerings include free open houses at Bayhealth’s Lifestyles Fitness Center, the Boys and Girls Club, Guided Walking Tours of Abbott’s Mill, healthy cooking classes at Abbott’s Grill, Guided Bike Tours Around Milford, Important Health information from the American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association, Micro-derm Abrasion for Healthy Skin, Horseback Riding open house, karate, family 5k walk/run, kayak demos, sports physical therapy, Jazzercise and more.

Stop by the Milford Stands Up for Fitness booth along the Riverwalk to pick up your program passport.  Passports can also be found at the Milford Library, Lifestyles Fitness Center, The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford or Downtown Milford Inc.
