Downtown Farmer’s Market Opens This Saturday

May 4 2011 /

The 2011 Farmers’ Market season will kick off Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 9 a.m. beginning their fourteenth year.  The tradition of the Milford Farmer’s Market began with residents of Milford merely backing their pickup trucks up to the Mispillion River to share their vegetables, fruits and handmade items with other locals on Saturday mornings.

“It’s exciting to see the tradition continue and see the same vendors return year after year.  This year most of our vendors will be returning and we look forward to having a great time,” commented Jim Cooper, Manager of the Farmer’s Market.

The market will run each Saturday until October 29, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The location of the market is 7 South Walnut Street, next to Bikes Etc., and will include vendors selling fresh vegetables, baked goods, homemade jewelry, arts and flowers.  Help for the Farmers’ Market is supplied by students involved in Future Farmers of America.

“These kids always do a great job helping out at the Farmer’s Market.  They volunteer their time and learn more about agriculture in Southern Delaware,” stated Mr. Cooper.

Those wishing to apply to be a vendor should contact Jim Cooper at 302-398-8188 to receive an application with detailed information. Fees are due weekly to Jim Cooper or his designate on the day of the market; vendor fees will be $10 per week for the 2011 season.

DMI would like to recognize the market vendors by placing product information or website links on the Farmers’ Market webpage so vendors are urged to please submit to the Downtown Milford, Inc. office at sara@downtownmilford.org.
