Lady Bucs Hope to Seize Playoff Berth with Win at Campus Community

Milford girls soccer finished the season strong, scoring early and often with an 8-0 victory over the visiting Campus Community Cougars.

They came out attacking and it wouldn’t take long before the Bucs got on the board.

In the fourth minute Tara Gleysteen dribbled down the left side passing the ball in the box to Morgan Anton who put it in the back of the net.

Only two more minutes would pass when again Gleysteen sprinted down the side and crossed the ball to Anton who this time used a beautiful header to put Milford up 2-0.

“I was extremely satisfied with the performance today.” Head coach Keith Short said.

Shortly after, striker Rebekah Yanacek would fire a shot that hit the crossbar, her first of a few that hit the woodwork.

In the 15th minute Gleysteen would get her own name on the score sheet, taking a pass from Nidia Leon and putting it past the Cougars keeper.

In the 24th minute, Anton would complete the hat trick, using superb skills inside the box and kicked it home to put Milford’s lead at 4.

Not long after Sarah Holdbrunner fired a shot from just outside that was cleared off the line at the last second by the Cougars defense.

Still looking for more goals in the last 10 minutes Yanacek fired off a strong shot that hit the post.

For a majority of the second half Milford completely dominate the ball, retaining almost all possession and use the short passing game to frustrate Communities defense.

It would be almost half time, when Yanacek would get her goal when she accepted a pass from downfield and danced into the Cougars zone before striking one home, growing the Lady Bucs’ lead to 5.

In preparation for the playoffs and to hone the passing seen in the first half, Short had the team practice short passing during the intermission.

“The girls have really worked hard at it every day in practice, Short said. But they’ve taken it from practice and applied it to games, I’m very happy with that.”

The second half would start very much like the first, with Yanacek adding her second goal in the 46th minute.

The passing that the team has been practicing paid off in the 52nd minute when the teamwork of Kira Byler and Gleysteen lead to Anton getting her fourth goal.

The Bucs would cap off the scoring in the 59th minute when Yanacek, splitting the Cougars defense and scoring her third goal of the game, put Milford up 8-0.

Now in the top 16 in the state standing, Milford awaits the end of the regular season to see who their playoff opponent will be.
