Delaware Hospice at Milford

The Delaware Hospice’s 5K (3.1 Mile) Run and Family Fun Walk, which has become a popular, annual community event, will be held in Milford on Wednesday evening, July 13th, at the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the 5K at 6:30 p.m.

Children and casual walkers can choose the short and easy “fun walk,” and more serious walkers, joggers and runners will enjoy the official, flat and fast 5K race course. The original Delaware Hospice 5k event began in Wilmington but since the construction of the new Milford facility it has been moved to lower Delaware. The surrounding farmland, open skies and new age facility off of Airport Road make for a beautiful backdrop for this event.

“The 5k event is really something to experience,” says event coordinator Peggy Dolby. “The first year we had patients from the hospice come outside and cheer the runners on as a sign of encouragement. It was an amazing sight to see and we hope this year’s event will be just as remarkable.”

According to Ms. Dolby, in past years the Delaware Hospice Run and Family Fun Walk has seen over 300 participants involved in Milford. Some participants are family members of those currently receiving hospice care and others are individuals from the community showing support for Delaware Hospice and their mission.

Since 1982, Delaware Hospice has provided exceptional care and support to nearly 35,000 patients and their families. Its mission is to help each patient, each day, live the fullest, most comfortable life possible. Delaware Hospice is the largest and only licensed, nonprofit, community-based hospice serving New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware and southern Chester and Delaware counties in Pennsylvania.

During the event, awards will be presented to overall male and female finishers and the top three in 10-year age groups from 13 & under to 70 +, as well as to the top three male and female walkers. All participants will receive t-shirts. The entire family will enjoy the post-race party, including a live broadcast of Eagle 97.7 FM.

Registration fee for individuals is $15. Team/family registration for a group of four is $50. Register can be completed at www.races2run.com. Delaware Hospice acknowledges all event sponsors who have contributed to the event, including: Ace Hardware, Dave’s Silkscreening, Dover Rent-All, Representative Gerald Hocker, Sysco, NRG, and Pep-Up.
