Constant Contact says Stay in Touch in Person

The August Power Breakfast was hosted by Constant Contact, an easy, effective, affordable email marketing company. Over twenty chamber members attended the breakfast, and Sussex County Economic Development Director Julie Wheatley and Southern Delaware Tourism Marketing Administrator Jenna Backes joined the group. This was the first Power Breakfast either has attended, and both say they had a great time. Julie says it was wonderful seeing how happy and enthusiastic everyone was so early in the morning.

Guest Speaker Constant Contact Regional Director Dave Youghans says today it’s all about staying in front of your customers. He says communicating with them regularly and reminding them of your value is a must. Dave reminded guests that the way to drive repeat business, get more referrals and boost your business is to set yourself apart from the “big guys”.
One way of doing this is through effective email marketing. We all know it’s very hard to find anyone today that doesn’t have a few personal email accounts and at least one business email, so it’s very easy to reach people. Even my seventy-nine year-old dad has email. My mom, on the other hand, would rather communicate verbally, as she says it’s much easier and more personal.

Constant Contact Business Partner Janice Markopoulos says over 400 professionally designed email templates are available to choose from, so I’m thinking even my mom could get up to speed and start emailing with the help of Constant Contact. Their templates include newsletters, promotions, events and invitations, business letters, press announcements, holiday cards, travel and tourism and more.

They provide step-by-step, point & click Email Wizard, so creating an effective email is very painless. You can easily change the layout, colors, and fonts and add new links and images, including company logos. In addition to the templates, they provide an anti-spam checker, “Site Visitor Sign-Up”, email result reports and email archives.

During the Power Breakfast Dave mentioned that businesses should not send emails to try to sell something, but they should use email marketing as an educational tool. Dave says it’s ok to add a coupon; however most of the content should be educational. He says you have to make it worthwhile for someone to read, or your email will get deleted very quickly. In addition to the content of the email, Dave says your subject line is also very important. If the subject line doesn’t grab the reader’s attention it too will be deleted immediately.

He also says he’s old school and believes that email is great, yet the best way to grow your business is to communicate by talking in person or on the phone, like good ‘ole mom does. He told guests at the breakfast that opportunities the chamber provides are the best way to grow your business and Constant Contact is available to enhance your business.
