Boys & Girls Club Kicks Off New Year

Executive Director Dorian Mendez-Vaz, Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club

By Dorian Mendez-Vaz

The Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club had a wonderful summer. On average, one hundred and seventy five kids participated daily in our Summer Fun Club, Pre-School and Migrant Programs. First time swimmers won medals in the swim competitions, while the art program cultivated budding artists who created the art of cultures around the world. The Michael Phelps im Swim Program, provided for all of our summer participants, offered swim and water safety instruction, healthy nutrition and successful goal setting lessons. We took field trips to the Baltimore Aquarium, Philadelphia Zoo and Milford Bowling Alley, just to name a few.

This summer our adult swim program participation increased. It was great to see the lanes used by so many members of the community. We will enter the fall with one hundred twenty three adult aquatics program members, not to mention the ones who drop in for a swim.

As Milford Schools opened their doors on August 31, we once again welcomed children and youth from the Greater Milford community to participate in our Before and After School Care Programs. Though offered year round, our Preschool Program will begin a new season as well. If you have children ages 3-14 we invite you to join our Boys and Girls Club family.

In addition to all of the great things happening at the Club, I am happy to announce that this fall we will launch an adult physical fitness program. The program will include exercising in our new fitness room. Stay posted for the announcement of the kick-off of the program and the grand opening of the fitness room.

For more information on all of our programs, please call us at 302.422.4453 or drop by Monday through Friday during the hours 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We look forward to talking with you and sharing how “great things happen here”.
