Margaux Azzanesi, Regional Development Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of DE with Ed Steiner, One Campaign Chairperson for the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club

Staff Report

The Board of Directors of the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club proudly announces that Edward J. Steiner has volunteered to serve as Chairperson of the 2012 Annual One Campaign. The campaign raises critical funds in support of the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club’s educational and youth development programs. All funds raised during this effort will be matched dollar for dollar by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware.

Boys & Girls Club programs are geared toward helping youth become productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Studies show that many of the children who participate in our after-school homework help program, “Power Hour,” and attend the Club on a daily basis have improved academic performance, attendance and behavior and are more likely to complete high school and college. In addition, studies show that Club programs help to lower rates of juvenile crime, drug use and teenage pregnancy.

Ed has supported the Boys & Girls Club for many years, formerly serving on the Capital Campaign committee to raise funds to build the facility on Airport Road. He participated because he felt that there needed to be a safe place for all children after school– a place where they could work on their homework, where they could enhance their social skills and develop leadership qualities.

Ed volunteered to chair the Annual One Campaign this year, because he understands how tough society can be on children. “Most of us have no idea of the need out there. The Boys and Girls Club addresses some of that need. The extent to which the Club can be effective in their mission depends on our support. If we do not give, someone will struggle who did not have to struggle.”

“The Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club is so grateful to have Mr. Steiner serve as our new One Campaign Chair. He has a heart for children and the Greater Milford community.  His will be the voice that speaks on behalf of so many of our children and how the Club benefits the whole community” said Dorian Mendez-Vaz, Executive Director of the Greater Milford Club.

The Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club’s One Campaign focuses on generating annual operating support from individuals and businesses that will enable GMBGC staff to continue to provide quality program services to over 250 area youth. The drive runs through June 2012 with a goal of $150,000. Those interested in supporting the One Campaign should contact Margaux Azzanesi, Regional Development Director at (302) 422-4453 or mazzanesi@bgclubs.org.
