The Milford High School Swim Team will host their first meet of the 2011-2012 season at the Greater Milford Boys and Girls Club on Tuesday, December 6. With over 60 swimmers participating this season the Milford Swim Team looks to continue their success of the past.
The swimming program was started in Milford only thirteen years ago under the direction of Pat McKenzie. This year’s coaches Michelle McKenzie and Ashley Huber were some of the first swimmers during the inaugural season and continue the legacy of what Coach Pat started.
“We have come so far since the beginning of the program,” commented Coach Huber. “We have built a dedicated and strong team this year and look to be a tough competitor in the Henlopen Conference.”
Under the coaching of Huber and McKenzie, Milford’s girls’ swim team went undefeated during the 2009-2010 season and won the Championship meet at Lake Forest to complete a perfect year. With just over a .500 record last year Huber and McKenzie hope to recapture the energy and hard work of that 2009 season.
“We hope that we can maintain an excellent record and work with everyone to improve on their personal times,” commented Coach McKenzie. “ We are going to come out with a positive attitude and have a good time.”
Captains of the Milford Swim Team this year include Jesse McCormick and Ethan Reichhold for the boys’ squad and Alisa Sanders and Ambrie Paquette for the girls’ squad. With 9 new swimmers on the boys’ team the captains will have to demonstrate leadership to have a successful year.
“We are working really hard everyday with the new swimmers,” commented Captain Jesse McCormick. “We need to see some quality starts and I hope to have a winning record.”
The girls’ team is looking to improve their record from last year and continue their tradition of being one of the best teams in the Henlopen Conference.
“We want to come out this season and swim our hardest,” commented Captain Ambrie Paquette. “We look really good this year and we are working very hard.”
The coaching staff of Milford, Michele McKenzie and Ashley Huber, are working day and night to ensure that their entire team remains competitive in the Henlopen Conference.
“We will come out this season swimming our hardest from day one,” stated Coach Huber.
Athletes to keep an eye on this season include Jesse McCormick,Ethan Reichhold and Trevor Maloney on the boys’ team and Alisa Sanders, Jessica Downes and Morgan Parsley on the girls’ team. Milford will hold their first meet against Caravel Academy on Tuesday, December 6 at 3:30pm at the Greater Milford Boys and Girls Club Pool.
