MAL Has Cure for Winter Blues

Watercolor Painting with Jean Masetti

Relax and have fun with others as you paint with watercolors and build your confidence. Join Jean Masetti on Mondays at the Mispillion Art League in Milford from 1 to 3 p.m., January 16, to February 20, to explore the many surprises painting with watercolors can reveal. Encourage your creative side and boost your confidence in your painting ability with this multi-faceted medium. A second session will run from April 16, to May 21, also 1 to 3 p.m. A supply list will be given upon registration.

Jean Masetti is an experienced watercolorist who studied commercial art at NYC College & Bergen Comm. College. Cost is $100 MAL Members/$115 for non-members. Registration ends Jan. 13 for the first session and April 13 for the second session.

Help for the Winter Blues with Ada Gonzales

Create some easy art while learning how to keep your spirits up during this long, cold season of the year. Ada Gonzales gives us positive psychology and ways to deal with the dark days of winter. Ada is a licensed therapist and life coach. Cost is $15 for art league members and $19 for non-members. Registration ends January 18.

Pastels with Cathy Walls

Add color to the winter blahs! Spend a weekend in the warm and cozy Mispillion Art League education studio as you practice different methods of using soft pastels and paper to create artwork from still life objects. The class runs January 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day. Bring your own supplies or use the art league supplies for a $5 fee. Pack a lunch.

Cathy is a professional artist whose specialities are pastels and watercolors.Cost of the weekend class is $70 for members of the art league and $85 for non-members. Maximum number of students is 12, so register early. Registration closes January 25.

Wine and Pearls with Joan Mulholland

Enjoy a glass of wine and learn about the most ancient of gems at the Mispillion Art League on Friday, Feb. 3, from 6-8p.m.. Joan will discuss pearls and then lead participants in making their own necklaces with freshwater pearls. Silk bags for the necklaces will be included. Joan, known as the “Pearl Lady”, first became interested in pearls during a five-year residence in Hong Kong and now has private clients all over the world. Cost is $75 MAL members/ $90 NM (includes all materials). Please register by Jan. 28. There is a class maximum set at 12 students.

Creative Hand building with Clay with Maria Sadler

Learn basic construction techniques and surface treatment for hand-rolled clay Sunday afternoons in February at the Mispillion Art League. The class in creative hand building with clay will run Feb. 12, 19, 26, Sundays (3 wks) 1-4p.m. Use stamps and items
from nature in a fun, relaxed classroom environment.

Weeks 1 & 2- Explore & Create. Week 3-Decorate finished (bisque-fired) pieces using commercial glazes.
Maria Sadler is an accomplished potter. Cost is $80 MAL members/ $95 NM. A $7 firing fee is due at the first class.
Please register by Feb. 8. The class size is limited to 8 students.

Warm Up with Art! For Children grades 1 – 6

Baby it’s cold outside! So, in this class we will “travel” to warm, tropical climates as we learn to paint in the styles of famous artists; Henri Rousseau, Winslow Homer, Joan Miro and Paul Gauguin. Class runs every Tuesday from Feb. 7 – 28, from 4 to 5 p.m. for first through third graders and 5:15 to 6:15 for fourth through sixth graders.

During this four-week class, students will be using watercolors, acrylics, markers, and chalk pastels. We won’t be taking any field trips, but we will be studying paintings that are on exhibit at the National Gallery of Art, in Washington, DC. Cathy Walls will be teaching this class. She is a professional artist whose specialties are pastels and watercolors. Cost of the weekend class is $50 for members of the art league and $65 for non-members. Maximum number of students is 12, so register early. Registration closes February 2.
