Officer Melvin Teaches Students Gun Safety

Last week Ms. Ochs’ second grade class at Mispillion Elementary School was visited by School Resource Officer Joey Melvin for the purpose of teaching safety. The students of Ms. Ochs class were taught general safety during the the week including when to call 911, staying away from strangers and what do do if they find a weapon.

The focus of the week was to teach the kids gun safety and what to do in case they ever find a gun. Through the Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program, Officer Melvin taught the children four important steps to take if they find a gun: Stop!, Don’t Touch, Leave the Area and Tell an Adult.
