B&G Club Kick Off Annual One Campaign

The Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club kicked off their annual One Campaign on Thursday, February 16 at the Milford Boys and Girls Club facility off Airport Road. The campaign will raise critical funds in support of the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club’s educational and youth development programs.

Executive Director of the Greater Milford Boys and Girls Club, Dorian Mendez-Vaz,spoke to attendees about the great progress that has been made over the past year. She highlighted the successes of the Club’s newly established Marlins Swim Team and the new fitness facility that is available for adults.

Ms. Mendez-Vaz then introduced 12 year- old Kristopher Jackson, a member of the Boys and Girls Club who has shown immense improvement in school and in his community since his involvement with the Club.

“I like coming to the Club because it allows me to have time to do my homework and have fun with my friends,” commented Jackson. “It has helped me stay focused on what I want to become. I want to go to school to become an engineer.”

Closing out the speakers for the evening, Master of Ceremonies Ed Steiner, spoke to the audience regarding the One Campaign and urged attendees to support the Club’s effort in the Milford community.

“Do you know of any other organization in this community that helps with the development our children in such a large way,” stated Mr. Stein during his keynote speech. “The Boys & Girls Club deserves to be a priority when we are thinking how to give back to our community.”

The Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club’s One Campaign focuses on generating annual operating support from individuals and businesses that will enable the staff to continue to provide quality program services to area youth. The One Campaign runs through June 2012 with a goal of $150,000.
