Suspect Barricades Himself In House

Milford Police Department

On 3/23/12 at appox 7:30pm, the Milford Police responded to a residence in the double digit block of W. Clarke Ave after receiving a complaint of a disorderly person that had broken into someone’s room and damaged items. Upon arriving Police discovered that the person had barricaded himself into his upstairs’ room and had threatened that he had a gun.

The Delaware State Police SORT Team, E.O.D Team, Conflict Management Team and Harrington Police Department responded to assist the Milford Police S.O.G Team, K-9 unit and Criminal Division. Other occupants of the residence had to be rescued from the downstairs area of residence by the Milford S.O.G Team.

The person was later identified as Drue Ryans, 43yo of Milford. Ryans refused to exit the residence for 4 hours while damaging items inside the residence and throwing items out of various windows in the 3 story home. Ryans continuously displayed erratic behavior for several hours.

During negations with DSP Conflict Management Team, Ryans exited the residence onto the porch, Ryans was tasered and taken into custody by DSP Sort Team. Ryans was transported to Milford Bayhealth Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and mentally evaluated. Criminal charges are pending for Ryans.
