March 28 was officially Communities In Schools and Connecting Generations Day in the state of Delaware. Senator Margret Rose Henry was very instrumental in helping to make this day a reality by serving as an advocate and a voice to share the important roles we play in local schools and communities.
Milford Central Academy students Erica McCrea, Nicolas Hart, and Aryonna Lateef along with CIS Mentor Dwayne Powell and 30 other participants from Communities In Schools, Connecting Generations, and AmeriCorps Vista met Governor Markell and several other legislators. They were also able to sit in on the legislative hearing where Senator Margret Rose Henry acknowledged the group and read a resolution honoring the work of CIS and CG in our schools.
Governor Markell greeted each participant individually and spoke passionately about the importance of CIS and CG in Delaware schools. He acknowledged our state president Jim Purcell, our board, and all of the site directors for the work we do within our communities and in the lives of the young people we serve.
