Family Business Spans 3 Generations

Staff Report

One Stop Auto Shop all began with Bob and Rose Capece almost 40 years ago at a Long Island burger joint. Just 17 at the time, Rose saw Bob on her way to get something to eat with her sister. Thinking Bob was a handsome man, Rose came up with a plan to get his attention. In order to meet him, she flooded her engine and raised the hood of her car trying to look helpless. Of course Bob stopped to help, and after 40 years of marriage Bob and his wife, joining the business their son Joe would later establish, are helping stranded drivers together at the One Stop Auto Shop, located at 2098 Bay Road in Milford.

Owner of One Stop Auto Shop, Joe Capece, finished auto mechanics school and met the love of his life Lisa at the Jersey Shore. They started a family and moved to Delaware to raise their children. Eventually the entire extended family transplanted to Milford and surrounding areas. Early on Joe rented a single bay garage and worked around the clock doing what he loved. Soon he had more work than he could handle and moved into a double bay shop. His father Bob ran the truck during the day, and when Joe closed the shop each night, he took over the tow truck driving.

The family tradition continues as Joe’s oldest son Bobby graduated Milford High School just last year enrolled in the mechanical pathway. Bobby grew up in the shop and has a strong mechanical background.Bobby is now the shop manager specializing is custom exhaust and welding. Rose’s sister Joann is the day dispatcher while Rose does the accounting and runs the office.

With Bobby’s spot in the shop secure, the future of One Stop Towing, now rests on the youngest Capece’s shoulders Nick, just 13, whom attends Milford Middle School and is active in local Little league. Nick already dreams of one day running the tow trucks and loves to ride along with Joe and his grandfather. Joe created this business out of love for cars and continues it so that one day he can hand it down to his sons.

Today One Stop Auto Shop is a thriving mechanics shop with a towing service available 24/7 for AAA in all three counties in Delaware. One Stop employs 3 generations of family, growing from just a one man show to now having twelve rollbacks, 3 utility battery trucks, a three car carrier and 28 employees. Joe prides himself on a family atmosphere and fair prices. One Stop maintains a strong community presence and is active in almost every local high school sport team, several car shows, and sponsors a Milford travel Baseball team Nick plays on. Above all One Stop believes in strong family values. In a time where small business is struggling, One Stop relies on their strong, loyal customers which they consider a part of the family.
