Lions Mourn Loss of Grove

By Dick Andrews

This past week on 5/12/2012 the Milford Lions Club lost a great friend, a great person and a great Lion. Lion Gale Grove joined the Milford Lions Club in 1950 and has served his community for almost 62 years as a Lion.

Lion Gale held many officer positions in the Milford Lions Club and several positions at the District level. He was the Milford Lions Club President in 1973, District Zone II Chairperson in 1977 and Deputy District Governor in 1978. He was the chairperson for many of the committees and always volunteered to help with all the projects.

Lion Gale and his wife Ann hardly ever missed a Multiple District Convention and attend several International Conventions. He was the Convention chairperson for many years and was instrumental in persuading the members to attend the Multiple District Conventions. He always gave 100% to any committee or project that our Club was working on.

Lion Gale had 60 years of perfect attendance and received many awards during his 62 years of service to his community. He received the Ralph Helm and James McCarty awards for his loyalty and devotion to helping people in our community. In 1989 he received a Melvin Jones Fellow award, the highest recognition a Lion can receive. In 2005 the Club and Lion International presented Lion Gale with Life Membership.

Lion Gale had some health issues during the last year but that did not stop him from bringing a new member in March. He and Ann also attend the District Social in March. He attend our 66 Charter Night on April 28th and was presented a Melvin Jones Fellow progressive award.

Lion Gale Grove was a great Lion and the Milford Lions Club, his friends and the community will sorely miss him.
