Thirteen MHS Athletes Will Compete In College

On Tuesday, May 15 Milford High School athletes gathered in the school library to recognize those students that have excelled in their sport. To date, thirteen MHS athletes will be taking their skill to the next level as they prepare to play at the collegiate level next year. Four athletes from MHS baseball, three athletes from MHS football and five athletes from MHS track & field and cross country will play at the college level next year.

“This has been one of our more successful years,” commented Milford Athletic Director Glen Stevenson. “Many of these kids were freshman during the 2008-2009 year when we saw football, softball and track & field take the State Championship, so they have seen a lot of success.”

Milford High School football players moving on to play at the college level include Dallas McKenzie (Alright College), Charlie Galante (Lebanon Valey) and Colton Barr (Delaware VAlley College). Head Coach Mike Tkack is proud of his athletes and excited to see them play college ball.

“As a coach, to see your kids play at the next level is the greatest reward you can receive,” commented Coach Tkack. “They have worked extremely hard to get this far but now the real work begins. They will have to work hard to show these schools what they have. I have no doubt in my mind that they will be successful.”

Milford High School baseball players moving on to play at the college level include Nick Grant (Liberty University), Chris Huk (Delaware State University), David Michael (Delaware State University) and Jacob Richard (Delaware Valley). Coach Johnson has seen these athletes play at a highly competitive rate this year as the Bucs hope to return to the State Tournament.

“It is great to see the boys going on to play in college and following in the footsteps of the guys last year,” commented Coach Johnson, referring to Jerrell Allen and Devon Reed that were both drafted by the MLB last year.

Milford High School Track & Field and Cross Country athletes moving on to compete at the college level include Isaiah Brown (Barton College), Bryson Cartwright (Campbell University),Carl Richardson (Wilmington University), Molly Bliss (Universoty of South Caroline Upstate) and Michael Doughty (Brevard College). Coach Czar Bloom is impressed with the commitment by these players to be all around scholar athletes.

“It goes beyond their athletic abilities,”They are committed, disciplined student athletes. They have the GPAs, SAT scores, rigorous course load and they are amazing athletes. They have done everything they need to prepare for college and this will be a great opportunity for them.”

All thirteen athletes at Tuesday’s event will begin college in August and have the opportunity to excel at an entirely different level. The coaches and teachers at Milford High wish them well in their future endeavors and the Milford community is exciting to hear of their future success.
