Lady Bucs Advance In State Tournament

Milford softball entered into the DIAA State Tournament on Saturday, May 26 playing St. Georges High School at home. On their own turf, the Lady Bucs defeated St. Georges in a very close game 2-1.

Savannah Becker led off the game with a walk and scored on a pass ball to put the Lady Bucs ahead. Alyssa Sanders led off the fifth inning with a double. Kate Richard had a bunt to advance the runner to third while Kylie Nelson bunted Alyssa in for the score.

“The girls did a great job defensively,” commented Head Coach Christina Beach. “They worked hard as a team and put everything on the line.”

Coach Beach will be focusing the girls on improvements needed to compete at the next level of the State Tournament. Committing a few errors during Saturday’s game, the Lady Bucs will be concentrating on staying together as a team on the field.

“We need to work on hitting a little and taking every play as its own individual play,” commented Coach Beach.

The Lady Bucs will play away against Polytech High School on Tuesday, May 29 in the second round of the DIAA State Tournament. Last time that the Lady Bucs played the Panthers, the Bucs were defeated 11-2. To add insult to injury, the head coach at that time, Sean Brennan, quit as Head Coach of the team. Luckily for the Lady Bucs, Coach Beach stepped up and proved her leadership by leading them to a 12-6 record and a trip to the DIAA State Tournament.

“This time it will be big to stay mentally in the game,” commented Coach Beach. “We will focus on keeping the ball down and hitting the ball better. It is also important that the girls keep a positive attitude out there on the field.”

The Lady Bucs play Polytech High School away at 4pm on Tuesday, May 29 in the second round of the DIAA State Tournament.
