Welch Awarded Bayhealth Employee of the Quarter

Karen Welch, CHAA, of Harrington was named Employee of the Quarter for Milford Memorial Hospital. According to Director of Patient Access Jane Severs, MHA, FACHE, CHAM, Patient Access Supervisor Karen Welch, CHAA, is always a pleasure to work with. Welch came to Bayhealth in August 2003 as a Registrar in the overnight shift. She then transferred to the evening shift before being named Supervisor in the summer of 2008.

Welch oversees 10 registrars in the department, all of whom are responsible for registering and capturing the correct personal and insurance information of all patients admitted to the Emergency Department, whether they come in by ambulance, car, direct admit from their doctor, or as labor and delivery patients.

“Working here is different every day, and that’s why I like it,” she said. “And I’m blessed with a wonderful staff that works well as a team. They make my job easier. Any success I have is because of them.”

Before coming to Bayhealth, Welch worked for the Harrington Journal newspaper for 20 years in the accounts receivable department and as a member of the editorial team, taking photographs and writing articles. The Lake Forest High School graduate received her associate’s degree in general business from Delaware Technical & Community College this past May.
