Downtown Holiday Stroll Set for Dec. 7

Now that Santa Claus has officially arrived in downtown Milford, the 7th annual Holiday Stroll will kick off the 2012 holiday season. On Friday, December 7 historic downtown Milford will be open for business as holiday carolers, horse drawn wagon rides and holiday sales celebrate an old-fashioned yuletide season from 5 to 8 pm. Children and adults will enjoy the Christmas Carol Band, a Community Christmas Tree Lighting, the Delmarva Miniature Horse Club, a Christmas Tree Extravaganza and of course, a visit from Santa.

As in the past the downtown area will be blocked off to vehicle traffic as families are encouraged to stroll the decorated five-block downtown district with holiday trimmed store windows. This year South West Front Street, South East Front Street and North West Front Street will also be included in the celebration. New businesses being featured for the the first time this year will be Hidden Gem Boutique, Milford Florist and Home Decor, Little Posies Photography, the Towers Bed & Breakfast and Diamond Dance Company.

The Milford Museum will host a Special Holiday Exhibit featuring a large collection of antique and modern Santa Claus statues. A Victorian parlor scene includes a cozy fireplace scene complete with antique toys and Christmas tree will also be on display. At the Milford Public Library Santa’s elves will lead event goers on an enhanced journey through the pages of Clement C. Moore’s classic “Twas the Night Before Christmas. Individuals can also donate to the “Mitten Tree”, and vote for your favorite tree in the Christmas Tree Extravaganza.

In the downtown area families will visit the shops, restaurants, bakery, art galleries and artists’ studios for complimentary hot cider, chocolates and seasonal treats, giveaways and raffles. Traditional entertainment is one of the highlights of the Holiday Stroll featuring everything from barbershop quartets, bands, bell ringers, young carolers and faculty /student performances at the Music School of Delaware. Holiday Carolers including Back Swing, Out of Order, Old Mill Four, Reformation Church Choir and St. John’s Church Choir will provide entertainment on the downtown streets throughout the Stroll.

Santa will also be taking Christmas lists and wishes from children from 6 to 8pm at the downtown Milford Santa House located on Walnut Street next to the Mispillion Riverwalk. Snow or shine and free of charge, holiday lovers will not want to miss an old-fashioned Christmas with small town charm this Holiday season.

In keeping with the Holiday Stroll traditions, Milford is a “Community of Caring”. The vast majority of downtown businesses and non-profits will be accepting nonperishable and monetary donations to their favorite charities. For more information and questions please contact Lee Nelson, DMI Executive Director, at (302) 839-1180 or email Director@DowntownMilford.org.
