Surguy Awarded Bayhealth Educator of the Year


SurguyBayhealth Certified Wound Ostomy Care Nurse Wendy Surguy, BSN, RN, CWOCN, of Felton was named 2012 Heath Educator of the Year for Bayhealth Milford Memorial. She received the Carol Soots Award, named for a long-time Emergency Department nurse at Milford Memorial who passed away.

A Bayhealth employee for one and a half years, Surguy previously worked in Bayhealth’s Wound Care Center. Now, she assists with the plan of care for inpatients with chronic or non-healing wounds, ostomy education and product management, and caring for patients with continence issues. She also serves on Bayhealth’s Magnet Council and Electronic Documentation Council.

Surguy received her associate’s degree from Pike’s Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Colo.; her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Wilmington University; and her certification as a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. She is currently enrolled in the family nurse practitioner graduate program at Wilmington University, Del.

Wendy is a board member of the HealthCare Educators of Delaware, active in the Delmarva Chapter of Save a Leg Save a Life Foundation, and president of the Eastern Shore Affiliate of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse’s Society. Through her dedication to the advancement of wound care knowledge, Wendy Surguy has implemented new practice standards that have resulted in dramatic improvements in wound, ostomy, and continence care.
