Here’s wishing everyone an art filled 2013! January certainly ushered itself in with a grand arty start – it’s all happening in Rivertown, Art Town, Hometown Milford.
Milford got double recognition by the State in their individual artists awards: the Delaware Division of the Arts awarded Anne Jenkins the 2013 Established Artist Fellowship for folk art-visual arts discipline and an Honorable Mention to Michele Xiques, Director of First State Academy of Dance. Congratulations to both winners.
Art on the Riverwalk Tour (ART) is a new public art project: Downtown Milford (DMI) is partnering with the Mispillion Art League, Milford Parks & Recreation Dept and Milford High School on an exciting 3-year public art project partially funded by the Delaware Division of the Arts and the Milford Lions Club. About ART: 4-foot “sculptures” of the classic yacht Augusta built by Vinyard Boat Yard in 1927 will be displayed permanently along the Mispillion River and throughout downtown over the next 3 years, 18 in all with 6 per year being the goal. The derelict Augusta was rescued by present owners of the yard, Sudler and Joan Lofland, and restored to it’s former glory. All artists living/working in Kent and Sussex Counties are invited to apply following the guidelines and timetable. Each paid artist awarded a sculpture to decorate/paint will work with High School students as a mentor throughout the process.
