Downtown Milford Inc. (DMI) is currently seeking vendors for the 2013 Riverwalk Farmers’ Market which will be held every Saturday from May 4 to October 5. Beginning their fifteenth year, the tradition of the Milford Farmers’ Market began with residents of Milford simply backing their pickup trucks up to the Mispillion River to share their vegetables, fruits and handmade items with other locals on Saturday mornings.

With a focus on local, quality produce and products, the farmers’ market will provide an opportunity for the Milford community to come together and enjoy shopping for a variety of locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and plants, baked goods, prepared foods and other locally produced items. The renewed attention that was given to the Farmers’ Market last year by DMI offers Milford residents the opportunity to support local farm families and the Milford economy. According to DMI Treasurer Dan Marabello, sales from last year’s market increased from $65,000 to $90,000.

“We want to bring Delaware grown products to the neighborhood while benefiting farmers in our local community,” stated Beth Gilbert, member of the Farmers Market Committee. “We expect several returning vendors and are working very hard to feature some new merchants.”

The location of the market is 7 South Walnut Street, next to Good News Food in downtown Milford, and will include vendors selling fresh vegetables, baked goods, homemade jewelry, arts and flowers.  Help for the Farmers’ Market will be supplied by students involved in Future Farmers of America. The market will also provide entertainment for market attendees including planting activities, kitchen demonstrations and live entertainment.

“Everything we will be doing will promote our philosophy of river town, art town, home town,” commented the newest member of the Farmers’Market Committee, Nancy Forster. “The downtown farmers’ market is another ongoing effort by Downtown Milford Inc. to help revive the downtown area of Milford.

The 2013 Farmers’ Market season will run every Saturday starting Saturday, May 4, 2013 until Saturday October 5, 2013. Each market runs  from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interested merchants can fill out a vendor application by visiting http://downtownmilford.org/?page_id=168. Completed applications can be sent to Downtown Milford, Inc., P.O. Box 12, Milford, DE 19963. For any additional information on the market, individuals are encouraged to call 302-839-1180.
