A free workshop will be offered to downtown merchants on Tuesday, 26 February from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. at the Milford Library. Downtown Delaware, a program of the Delaware Economic Development Office (DEDO), has developed the Rural Business Accelerator (RBA), an innovative “train the trainer” program to strengthen downtown businesses in rural Delaware. This program supplements and advances business knowledge and expertise of local entrepreneurs and merchants, who will then serve as “BA Mentors” for other downtown business owners who want to increase sales, engage new customers, and generally become more proficient in running their business. Generous support for this local capacity-building program has been provided by USDA Rural Development.

Downtown Milford, Inc. has been chosen by Downtown Delaware to pilot this new program. DEDO Director, Alan Levin, noted that “Leadership of Downtown Milford Inc. has received this program with great enthusiasm, because they place a priority on assisting businesses that have already made an investment in the downtown”.

Based on the results of a recent downtown Milford merchant survey, the program will be officially launched by offering a training session that will focus on how businesses identify their target market, and how they may develop a message to attract that customer.

“We are especially excited about this program because it not only builds skills of the individual entrepreneurs, but of the downtown business community collectively” said Diane Laird, State Coordinator for Downtown Delaware.

All local businesses are welcome to attend this free training which will be held on Tuesday, February 26, at 6:30 pm in the Milford Public Library. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Please contact: Lee Nelson at (302)839-1190, e-mail Director@DowntownMilford.org
