Lady Bucs Set Tournament Goal

By Kevin Eickman

Last year Milford girls soccer posted a respectable 9-6 record, just missing out on a State tournament birth. This season coach Keith Short hopes that his team can improve on that record and reach the tournament as well. “Our goal is to make it to the tournament, we believe that we are capable of doing that,” said Coach Short.

To do that Milford is going to have to take the next step in the learning process; when opportunities present themselves the Lady Bucs will need to take advantage. “Our decisions need to be better, we have to make sure that we get the ball where it needs to be all the time.” Short said.

Milford will be shaking thinks up with newcomers as well as returning players in new positions. One new player to the team is senior Kyrstyn Golacinski, who will be playing left back. This will allow Milford to move senior Brianna Talkington to right back, a move that Short believes will strengthen the back line with sophomore Sydney Reynolds at sweeper. “This move will give us greater strength on defense, we plan on being very strong in the back this season.” he said.

The Buccaneers will look to senior Rebekah Yanacek for leadership on offense. Yanacek is an outstanding forward who provides difficulties for almost any defense. “Having Bekah up front makes us very strong coupled with Angie Gleysteen in the midfield,” commented Coach Short. “We also get a great amount of solid play from our goalkeeper senior Brooke Hughes, it is a blessing to have her as the last line of defense.”

Milford will open Tuesday, March 26 at 7pm at Indian River, before hosting Seaford on Thursday, March, 28 at 5:30 pm.
