Abbott’s Grill is kicking off the beginning of Spring with an event on their patio Thursday, April 25 at 6:30pm called “Farm-Fresh Spring Fest.” Part social mixer, part dinner party, with a trip to the local farmers market thrown in, Abbott’s will prepare small plates featuring spring produce paired with local beers, specialty cocktails and wine. Event goers will be able to meet and mingle with local farmers and will also have the opportunity to purchase fresh produce.
Abbott’s Grill has paired with Local on the Menu, a Southern Delaware Tourism initiative, to put together the event with the goal of highlighting the produce that becomes available to local restaurants during the Spring months. Paul Gallo, Executive Chef at Abbott’s Grill, is thrilled about the inaugural event, calling it “an amazing opportunity to show our community where their food comes from.”
“We are lucky enough to be surrounded by so many amazing farms that give us the freshest possible produce for restaurants in this region,” commented Gallo. “Late April is so exciting because it means we start to see asparagus, fresh peas, strawberries, rhubarb and all the other great things that signify the start of Spring.”
Educating people about local farms and how essential they are to the community, for both health and economic reasons, is something that Abbott’s Grill is passionate about year round.
“Purchasing locally brings us one step closer to the fields,there is nothing better than eating fifer blueberries and asparagus picked that morning,or ts smiths apples,or the excitement when russel farms start to harvest their vine ripe cherry tomatoes,” commented Abbott’s Grill Owner Kevin Reading.
Bob Russell Farms, Evans Farms, TS Smith & Sons and Fifer Orchards will all be present at the event, along with representatives from Local on the Menu.Tickets are $35 per person and include all food, beverages and gratuity.
