On Thursday, May 30 the Class of 2013 proudly stood on the field of Briggs Stadium to celebrate the culmination of twelve years of education and the opportunities that are just beginning for each student. Some students will choose college, some will join the work force and some will choose to serve their country by joining the military but all have moved one step closer to fulfilling their destiny.
Valedictorian Henry Thomas Phalen spoke to the class of 2013 asking them to think about who they were and what they can accomplish.
“Throughout four years I saw some of the greatest displays of friendship and loyalty. I watched so many of you pour your souls into a passion: music, art, learning, and sports. I’ve seen commitment, spirit, and pride. I’ve watched responsibility and bravery. I’ve felt acceptance and tolerance,” stated Phalen. “What is most important on the brink of a new journey – a commencement – is not what we have been, but what we can be. I have seen what the class of 2013 can be.” Phalen received a standing ovation by the peers and teachers.
Henry Phalen also received the Outstanding English Student Award, Outstanding Mathematics Student Award and Superintendent’s Honor Award. The Milford High School Class of 2013 Salutatorian Megan Noelle Rossetti was honored that evening as well.
Twelve additional awards were given to seniors that demonstrated superior abilities in their specific area of study or sport. The awards given included the Milford High School Leadership Award (Brian Robert Gilewski), Robert Leitheiser Service Award (Madison Devon Dodge), Captain James H. Johnson J. Award For Outstanding Male Athlete (Philip Thomas Berry), Outstanding Senior Female Athlete Award Milford New Century Club (Rebekah Jean Yanacek), Daughter of the American Revolution History Award (Grace Ann McFassel and Trevor James Maloney), The Donald Lee Gibson Instrumental Musical Award (Destiny Delois Bless Whidbee), Outstanding Choral Student Award (Jacob C.
