Miss Cape Henlopen Rebecca Lusk recently visited Lulu Ross and Benjamin Banneker Elementary School in Milford and shared her platform, Students Thriving with Arts Requirements in Schools (STARS) with the classes of Mrs. Kimmerlin and Mrs. Soucek.

“I developed this program because of my passion and my own experiences in the world of visual and performing arts,” commented Lusk. “Through my research to become an inspiring educator I have found a decrease in art programs within our school systems. My platform focuses on the importance of the arts, and how we can keep them flourishing within our school. The arts are so important to the development of our youth because they help to enhance their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. With the decreases in art programs, many students will not be able to receive all of these crucial benefits.”

Rebecca Lusk, Miss Cape Henlopen 2013 is a contestant in the Miss Delaware pageant taking place June 27th to June 29th. She graduated from Cape Henlopen High School this year and on June 4th will be attending the University of Delaware in the Fall as an Elementary Education major.
