Milford Senior League Softball continues to push forward in the Eastern Regional Tournament as the girls are now 3-0, defeating teams from Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. In the first game of the tournament Milford defeated Pennsylvania 8-4, dominating the offensive side of the ball. Brea MacFarland and Haylee Scruggs both pitched for Milford with 3 strike outs combined. Haylee Scruggs, Megan Fry and Kasey Fry all had 1 hit each, scoring a run as Kasey Fry had an RBI. Emily Messick, with bases loaded, had a double with 3 RBIs and Harley Rickards went 1 for 2, scoring twice. Kayla Brennan had a hit, scoring once and Savannah Case had a hit for Milford.
On Sunday, July 28 Milford beat New York 2-1, in a game best described as a nail bitting experience. Both teams were scoreless until the bottom of 5th inning when New York scored their only run on an error. Haylee Scruggs and Kasey Fry scored on two outs in the 6th inning, on a hit from Harley Rickards who kept New York in a pickle between first and second base while the Milford girls scored.
On Monday afternoon, the Milford Senior Softball team defeated New Jersey 8-2 in their third game of the Eastern Regionals, advancing them to 3-0 in the tournament. Haylee Scruggs and Brea MacFarland both pitched against New Jersey with 5 strikeouts combined. Haylee Scruggs had 2 hits while scoring 1 run; Savannah Case, Kayla Brennan, Megan Fry and Kasey Fry all scored 1 run each; Harley Rickards had 1 hit, 1 run and 1 RBI; and Jenna Campbell had 2 hits, 1 RBI and scored 2 runs for Milford.
Milford will play Maryland on Wednesday at 10am. The Winner of the Eastern Regionals will advance to the 2013 Senior League Softball World Series held in Roxana, Delaware, starting Sunday, August 4.
