Abbott’s To Host Pirate Beer Dinner

Screen Shot 2013-07-31 at 8.28.50 PMOn Thursday, August 8 Abbott’s Grill will host one of their famous tasting events on their beautiful garden patio in downtown Milford; this time with a unique twist for beer lovers. The Heavy Seas Beer Dinner will feature a French Caribbean Cuisine inspired five-course dinner, expertly paired with Heavy Seas Beer.

A favorite of Abbott’s Grill owner Kevin Reading, pirate-inspired Heavy Seas beer is brewed from Clipper City Brewing Company in Baltimore, Maryland. With many of its beers difficult to keep in stock in the region due to high demand it is easy to see how Heavy Seas Beer has racked up awards including repeat wins at the Great American Beer Festival, bronze medal winner at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival, bronze medal winner at the 2004 Great American Beer Festival and gold award winner at the 2010 World Beer Cup.

“We are excited about the event at Abbott’s, commented owner of Heavy Seas Beers, Hugh Sisson. “There is something about pirates that capture a certain romance. As I once read, ‘the average man will bristle if you say his father was dishonest, but he will brag a little if he discovers that his great-grandfather was a pirate.’”

Sissons is known in Baltimore not only for his beer but as the individual responsible for the legalization of prewbubs in the state of Maryland. According to the Baltimore Sun newspaper, Clipper City Brewing Company added 10,000 square feet of space to its 15,000 square foot facility for shipping and receiving in August 2011.

“We really focus on creating balanced flavors in our beers instead of going extreme just for the sake of being extreme,” commented Sissons, when asked about what has attributed to their recent success. “We look at how we can refine our beers so that we can create a fuller flavor.”

Abbott’s chefs will prepare Grilled Octopus with Escabeche paired with Small Craft Warning Uber Pils for the first course followed by Shrimp and Coconut Soup with Habanero Oil paired with Cutlass Amber. Smoked Shark in Banana Leaf with Rum Barrel Essence will be prepared next, paired with Holy Sheet. Course four will feature Malta Claze Wild Boar with Tostones, Mango Chutney and Banana Polenta paired with Loose Cannon. To round out the evening course five will feature Mango Panna Cotta paired with Red Sky.

The Heavy Seas Beer Dinner will be held on Thursday, August 8 at 6:30 pm at Abbott’s Grill, located at 249 NE Front Street in downtown Milford. The event is $54 per person and reservations are required.
