On September 25, 2013 the Milford Police Department Criminal Division arrested and charged a 20yo Milford woman at the conclusion of a month long investigation. Chantel M. Correa was charged with Child Abuse 1st Degree neglect with serious physical injury and Felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Police state that detectives discovered that Correa had been the caregiver of the 13 month old infant victim at a residence located in Brightway Commons apartment complex during the month of August 2013. On 8/28/13 detectives responded to Milford Bayhealth Hospital after receiving a report of the 13 month old infant victim suffering severe burns. According to police, it was revealed that the 13 month old infant victim had sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burn on 48% of its body. The 13 month old infant victim was transported to Crozier Burn Center in Pennsylvania for treatment and was listed in stable condition. Further investigation revealed that Correa was also a caregiver for a 30 month old toddler. The incident occurred when Correa provided the 30 month old toddler with a hair blow dryer in order to dry damp clothing and then left the two in a room together for several minutes. Correa was arraigned and released on $22,000 unsecured bond.
