Milford Gallery, a new shopping center located on Dupont Highway next to Bob Evans Family Restaurant is now open for business. The center, which is owned by the LaRagione family, currently houses the new Sleepy’s Mattress Center, and will soon be home to SnoYo Frozen Yogurt.
The Laragione family are well known in Milford as the owners of Mama Maria’s Restaurant. According to Salvatore Laragione, the family has owned the lot for about 15 years and felt it was time to put it to “good use.” Construction began on the shopping center in early spring.
On Friday, December 6, the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Milford held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the center under a plaque that names the structure “The LaRagione Building.” In attendance were City Manager Richard Carmean, Mayor Ronnie Rogers and State Representative Jack Peterman.
“I want to thank everyone for their support,” said Giuseppe Laragione, who attended the event with his wife and sons Franco and Salvatore, both of whom now operate the Milford and Dewey Beach Mama Maria locations. Senator Jack Peterman expressed his support for the future of both the new location and Mama Maria’s.
“We want to thank you for choosing Milford to expand your family’s enterprise,” Representative Peterman said.
Opened as Attilio’s Pizza in the Milford Plaza Shopping Center in 1979, the family opened Mama Maria’s after the construction of the Milford Village Shopping Center in 1985. The family decided to merge the two locations in the Milford Plaza location in 1996 after opening another Mama Maria’s restaurant in Dewey Beach in 1993. The restaurant is named in honor of Giuseppe’s mother, the grandmother of his sons, Salvatore and Franco.
