Milford’s Lions Club met on Saturday, December 21 to deliver Christmas food baskets to local underprivileged families. The longest-running traditional of all Milford Lions Club events, the Christmas basket deliveries have occurred annually for over 50 years. Each lion was enlisted to deliver baskets to at least three families that morning as the organization aided over 60 families in all.
Mary Ann Bennett, member and Second President of the club, has enjoyed being a participant of such a worthy cause each year. “It is an opportunity for us to help families in need during the holiday season,” commented Bennett. “When they open that door and you see how thankful they are to receive these items you understand why you are doing it.” Mary Ann says that it can be as emotional for the Lions involved as the families that receive the holiday goods.
This years the Milford Lions Club celebrated its 68 years serving the community of Greater Milford. They continue to help with many community projects that have included the purchase of several items for the Fire Company such as the Jaws of Life, individual fire fighters equipment and the ladder truck. They support the Milford Little Leagues, Pop Warner, Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club and the Park & Recreation summer programs. They fund the Academic Achievement program at the High School, having given over $12,000 in scholarships. The Milford Lions provide help to people in our community with their Sight & Hearing, Health & Welfare and Medical Equipment programs.
