MMH Auxiliary Has New President

mmhBy Gwen Guerke

Milford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has a new president. Toni Bergfelder has actually been at the helm since later summer working behind the scenes and taking care of business. Mrs. Bergfelder is enjoying the challenge of becoming more familiar with her newly adopted community as well as the top officer in this volunteer organization.

The Auxiliary staffs Reflections, Milford Memorial Hospital’s gift shop, and organizes fundraisers to support the hospital’s mission. Most recently, the group hosted a very successful barbecue, and the Black and White Ball, that the Auxiliary co-sponsors with the Junior Board of Kent General.

Just six years ago, Mrs. Bergfelder moved to the area from Chandler, Arizona where she managed the state’s AAA Domestic Travel Business Line. Her relocation is tied to her marriage to her husband, and together they live on a large farm west of Harrington. Her retirement and volunteer time in the Auxiliary started as a way to become involved in this community and to meet new people, she said.

“One of the benefits of volunteering is meeting new friends,” Mrs. Bergfelder said. “I was made to feel very welcome in the community”

She’s cultivated the friendship of long-time volunteers, and mentions Gale Anthony, Dawn Kenton, Carolyn Humes, Cynthia Jones, Ann Burton and Linda Caccamise. One of her goals is to bring more new volunteers into the organization along with Volunteer Manager Gale Anthony. Mrs. Bergfelder’s responsibilities range from attending Bayhealth board meetings to making certain the relocation of the auxiliary office goes smoothly.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Mrs. Bergfelder also serves on the board for Home of the Brave and is an active member of the Milford New Century Club, Seaford American Legion, AmVets in Long Neck and the Philanthropic Educational Organization.
