A head-on crash on Milford Harrington Highway (Del. 14) yesterday evening has left two women in critical condition.

The crash occurred at 11:08 p.m. as Stephen Meyers, 43, of Harrington, drove westbound in a 2010 Dodge Ram. For an undetermined reason, the front of his vehicle collided with the front of an eastbound 2007 Mazda MX3, operated by Lisa Figgs, 24, of Harrington.

The collision caused the Dodge to overturn. The Mazda caught fire, but a passerby removed Figgs and her passenger from the vehicle before it became fully engulfed.

All occupants were properly restrained at the time of the crash. Meyers was not injured. Figgs suffered internal and head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Milford Memorial Hospital. She was later transported to Christiana Hospital and admitted in critical condition. The passenger in the Mazda, Meredith Pase, 24, of Greenwood, was transported to Milford Memorial Hospital with leg and internal injuries, and was admitted in critical condition.

This investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed. Troopers from the Collision Reconstruction Unit have not yet determined the precise location of the vehicles immediately before the crash, or whether the vehicles were traveling in their designated lanes. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours as this crash was investigated and cleared.
