This month, Bayhealth congratulated Deborah Watson, FACHE, FACMPE, Bayhealth senior vice president and chief operating officer, on receiving the YWCA Trailblazer Award. Watson received the award in recognition of her work to mentor and support young women so that they can reach their full potential.

Watson was one of six women honored at the 2014 Academy of Women Leaders Awards Luncheon, held in Wilmington on April 30.

“These awards provide an opportunity for people across Delaware to recognize women who have made outstanding achievements in empowering women and eliminating racism,” said Michelle Basham, YWCA Delaware chief executive officer. “Our award recipients this year exemplify these aspirations in their work, their personal lives and their contributions to making Delaware even better.”

From 2001-2010, Watson served as Bayhealth’s vice president of operations for the Southern region. In 2010, she was promoted to the position of senior vice president and chief operating officer.

“I am honored to be recognized by the YWCA.  The Trailblazer Award validates the empowerment of women in their careers and personal advancement for them and their communities.  This award also belongs to my colleagues and my mentors who assisted me along the way,” said Watson.

Established since 1895, YWCA Delaware is a leader in empowering women, men and their families in embracing their full potential.  Serving nearly 6,000 individuals throughout the state of Delaware in 2013, YWCA Delaware’s mission is to promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

Watson’s husband, Dave Watson, and daughter, Erin Dzuriak, attended the luncheon, along with many of Watson’s Bayhealth colleagues.
