The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) has announce the 11th Annual Southern Lights of Life Masquerade Ball which will take place on Saturday, February 28, from 6 to 10 pm at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. This year’s Mysterious and Magical Evening of Living and Giving is a tribute to breast cancer survivors and their families in the style of Mardi Gras. It is also southern Delaware’s premier breast cancer fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting DBCC’s programs and services in Kent and Sussex counties. Through fundraising efforts, DBCC proudly serves nearly 6,000 women and men a year in the Delaware community.
Southern Lights of Life involves a sensational evening of Living and Giving and a lively party. Guests will be captivated by delicious food, gourmet cocktails, and delectable mini gourmet desserts donated by Half-Baked Bakery of Middletown. The evening will feature three local breast cancer survivors in a touching video, sponsored by Highmark Delaware and four local breast cancer survivors displaying amazing live auction items up for bid such as tickets to the ESPY Awards, a one week stay in Ripatransone, Italy, and tickets to Firefly Music Festival. The evening will include live music by local cover band, Kristen and the Noise, dancing, exciting live and silent auctions, and a photo booth.
Each year, community members support the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s Southern Lights of Life through donations, volunteering, sponsorships, and attendance in a cooperative effort to come together and take action to defeat breast cancer. Individual reservations are $150 with various levels of sponsorship beginning at $500. The 2015 Southern Lights of Life co-chairs are Gerri Coble and Michele Domenick, MD.
“This is my third year as a co-chair of the Southern Lights of Life fundraiser but I’m looking forward to celebrating with the new masquerade theme,” noted event co-chair Michele Domenick, MD and DBCC Board Member. “It will turn our Evening of Living and Giving into Mysterious and Magical! We don’t just bring breast cancer awareness and support to the community, we coordinate a premier experience you don’t want to miss!”
The generous support of the community enabled DBCC to raise over $132,000 at the 2014 Southern Lights of Life gala. The funds were used to expand programs in Kent and Sussex counties which increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms and bilingual health navigators, and deliver support and resources to women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
