Voter registration deadline, to vote in this year’s annual City election, is Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 4:30 pm. Persons wishing to register to vote must come to City Hall between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.Special Voter Registration

The City of Milford Annual Election will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015. The term of Office for all four wards will expire in May 2017. Each term will begin May 4, 2015 and be for two years. In accordance with the City of Milford Charter, not less than sixty (60) days prior to the Annual Election, all candidates for office shall file a nominating petition, stating the name of the candidate and the office for which he/she is nominated. Council petitions shall be signed by not less than ten (10) registered voters residing in the ward in which the Candidate resides.
Candidate Packets and Nominating Petitions can be obtained Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the City Clerk’s Office at Milford City Hall, 201 South Walnut Street, Milford, Delaware. The City of Milford ask that individuals wishing to run for office please call in advance to schedule an appointment. According to election officials, persons filing for the office of Milford City Council must be a citizen of the United States of America, resident of the City of Milford and continuously resided in the Ward for which he/she is seeking election for one year preceding the day of the election, a qualified voter in the City of Milford, at least 18 years of age as of the date of the election. Each candidate must have a criminal background check provided from the State Bureau of Identification and Federal Bureau of Investigation showing entire criminal history record and no felony convictions or crimes involving moral turpitude. The deadline to file for the Office of City Council is Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 4:30 pm. Petitions, along with the Statement of Eligibility Requirements and Acknowledgment of Candidacy & Receipt of Documents, must be filed in the City Clerk’s Office for confirmation in accordance with the filing deadline date.
Residents of the City of Milford are encouraged to be a part of the election process and reminded that having registered through the State of Delaware, Kent County or Sussex County Department of Elections does not qualify individuals to vote in a City of Milford Election. To be eligible, individuals must have registered at Milford City Hall. This year’s Voter Registration Deadline is Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 4:30 pm and Special Voter Registration Dates & Times at City Hall include Saturday, February 21, 2015; Wednesday, March 4, 2015; and Saturday, March 21, 2015. The City of Milford maintains their own voter registration list and all persons not on the City of Milford Voter Registration List are required to register in person at Milford City Hall, 201 South Walnut Street. The City Office is open for the purpose of registering persons who are qualified to be voters in the City of Milford Election during normal working hours, Monday through Friday, except holidays. Those voting by absentee ballot should call the City Clerk’s Office to be put on a list to obtain an affidavit for absentee balloting. Milford residents are encouraged to contact the City Clerk’s Office at 302-424-3712 to verify their voting status and for any other information.
