Carney Partners With Students To Thank Vets

On Friday, February 13 United States Congressman John Carney (D-DE) celebrated Valentine’s Day by partnering with Delaware students to thank veterans for their service. Over the last month, students at Lulu M. Ross Elementary School and Mispillion Elementary School in Milford made valentines cards for Delaware veterans. The students made nearly 700 valentines in total. This is the fourth year Congressman Carney has organized the Valentines for Veterans program.

A collective effort by more than 13 classrooms between Lulu Ross and Mispillion Elementary schools, the Valentine for Veterans program was facilitated by Principal Cindy McKenzie as her staff taught students about the importance of veterans and the role they play serving in the United States military. That afternoon, Congressman Carney visited the VA Medical Center in Elsmere to deliver the valentines cards and visit with the residents.

“Delaware veterans are extremely appreciative when someone thanks them for their service to our nation,” said Congressman Carney. “Valentines for Vets is a great opportunity for young people to make a personal connection with a veteran and learn about the brave men and women who dedicated their lives to serving our country.”
