On Wednesday, May 20, Milford Senior High School held their Annual Senior Awards Night in the Milford High School Auditorium. Students and guests were welcomed by Dr. David Carter, followed by Sarah Jump singing The Star Spangled Banner.
Dr. Carter congratulated the students for not only seeing their high school career through to the end but also exceeding expectations with the awards that were to be given that night. Marvin Schelhouse, President of the Milford School District Board of Education, also congratulated the students for a job well done as they embarked on the next chapter of their lives.
“Not only should you be proud, but your parents should be proud as well,” Mr. Schelhouse said. “Your parents created an environment that not only allowed you to grow into the young men and women you are today, but they encouraged you to reach for greater heights and not only grow, but thrive.”
Dr. Phyllis Kohel, Superintendent of Milford School District, also praised the students in attendance for their significant achievements. She pointed out that the growth of students is a community effort and thanks should be given to anyone who has supported a student throughout their academic careers, whether it is teachers, administrators, neighbors or relatives.
Hannah Uebele and Matt Groce were awarded the United States Marine Corp. Distinguished Athlete Award while Morgan Perry was awarded the United States Marine Corp. Scholastic Excellence Award. Marquon Brady received the United States Marine Corp. Semper Fidelis Award as well as the John Philip Sousa Award for outstanding performance in band.
The Jannie Martin Award went to Morgan Perry and the Outstanding Accounting Award was given to Connor Bullock. In addition to that award, Connor Bullock also won the Business Professionals of America Award along with Holly Miller. Natalia Hernandez was presented the Outstanding Marketing Award as well as the DECA Award.
The MHS Theater Department gave several awards. Desirae John, Gabrielle Romaro, Abigail Roxby, Sydney Stump and Mikah Titus were given the Senior Excellence in Theatre Participation Award while Tyler Dehel was awarded for Senior Excellence in Stage Management. Dylan Bradley received the Senior Technical Theatre Award. The Kelly Tyrell Gill Art Award was given to Heather Garrity and Lauren Wallace. Sarah Jump was awarded the Outstanding Choral Performer Award while Dylan Bradley received the Accelerated Reader Award.
Scholarships were also awarded during the ceremony. Michael Tkach received the Leo Club/Milford Lions Club Scholarship while Hannah Uebele won the Milford Lions Club (Jim Willis) Scholarship. Jordan Prouse and Kayla Brennan also won Milford Lions Club Scholarships. The ILC Dover LP Scholarship was awarded to Hannah Folke while the Milford AARP Scholarship was awarded to both Megan Kirkpatrick and Kayla Brennan. The Traditional Milford Rotary Scholarship went to Nicholas Sobota, the Warnell Milford Rotary Scholarship was awarded to Hannah Uebele and the Alternate Traditional Milford Rotary Scholarship was given to Kayla Brennan.
The Mispillion Art League Scholarship was given to Lauren Wallace and Heather Garrity while the Mary Vinyard Purves Memorial Scholarship went to Jordan Prouse. Jenna Campbell received the First State Corvette Club Scholarship and Davida Johnson won the Fire n Ice SBC/SC Sport Bike Club and Social Club Scholarship. Jenna Campbel also received the Temple Lodge Open Scholarship.
Allison Wilkins was awarded the Temple Lodge Henry C. Colman Scholarship while the Milford Education Associations Scholarship went to Elyssa Buczkoski. Kasey Fry won the Jerry S. Guyer Scholarship. The Chase Your Dream Scholarship, which was provided by the Class of 2009 as well as the Smith and Rothermel Families, was awarded to Sarah Jump and Jordan Prouse. Elyssa Buczkoski also won the Connie L. Howell Scholarship while Michael Tkach won the David J. Berezowski Football Scholarship.
Hannah Uebele also won the Downstate Delaware Striders and Riders Laura Gondeck Memorial Scholarship while Natalia Hernandez and Eric Velazquez won the Raymond W. Masten and Elizabeth W. Masten Scholarship. Matt Groce received the 2015 Textbook Award Delaware Section of the American Chemical Society. The Brandon Michale Wagamon Hastings Music Education Scholarship went to Sarah Jump and the Delmarva Antique Bottle Club Scholarship went to Hannah Uebele. Sarah Jump won the Dr. Tricia Martin Scholarship.
The first Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford Scholarships were presented to Hannah Uebele, Ericela Roblero, Robert Scott and Ben Wilcox.The last award of the evening was the dedication of the 2014 Milford High School Yearbook, which is historically dedicated to a staff member who has gone above and beyond for the students of the school. This year, the students chose Seth Buford to be given the honor.
