Bayhealth is seeking volunteers to work on the Planetree Patient Partnership Council, which works to help improve patient care. The Patient Partnership Council works with former patients and family members to provide Bayhealth staff with the patient and family perspective of Bayhealth’s services.

Since 2005, Bahealth has incorporated Planetree’s – a non-profit that helps focus on delivering care from the patient perspective – patient-focused model of care at Bayhealth. The purpose of the Patient Partnership Council is to serve as a communication vehicle between patients and Bayhealth staff. The council receives input – good and bad – from the community and brings it back to Bayhealth.

Planetree Coordinator Donna Henderson said the council plays a huge part in improving the patient experience. “This council is important because it is the voice of our patients. If we don’t ask them about their stay, than we don’t know,” Henderson said. “They’re the voice of our patients and a crucial part to the success of our patient-centered care effort at Bayhealth.”

Serving on the council requires a two-year commitment. The council meets six times a year at both Bayhealth Kent General and Bayhealth Milford Memorial. Volunteers need to have had a previous inpatient experience, is a family member of a patient or a care partner.

Milford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary member and former nurse Pat Crabb joined the Patient Partnership Council roughly eight years ago. The wife of a retired physician, Crabb has a knack for talking to community members about their concerns. “We’re able to bring back to Bayhealth the concerns of the community and by the same token compliments. We let the committee know and they pass it on,” Crabb said. “It all helps in what Bayhealth is trying to do to improve the care of the patients.”

Former patients or family member who is interested in serving the Patient Partnership Council, can contact Director Patient Advocacy, Service Excellence and Professional Recruitment Marianne Foard, MS, BSN, RN, at 744-6463.
