On Tuesday, September 1, The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announced the closure of the U.S. Route 113 Northbound Overpass between Frontage Road and Route 1 northbound beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, September 14. Emergency repairs were made to the deck of the bridge on Sunday, May 3 through Friday, May 15, due to the presence of crumbling concrete. Although this work was completed ahead of schedule before the beginning of heavy beach traffic on Route 1, paving the approaches to the structure was scheduled after the Labor Day holiday weekend when traffic would be less congested.

During the road closure, DelDOT’s contractor George & Lynch, Inc., will work on the Route 1 northbound approaches to the bridge. The north roadway of the approach to the bridge will be a full width mill and warm mix overlay. The south roadway of the approach to the bridge will be a full roadway reconstruction. A sealant will also be applied to the newly reconstructed bridge deck.

At night only, Route 1 traffic southbound exiting to U.S. Route 113 southbound in Milford will be shifted to maintain a single lane of traffic. Nighttime hours will be from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning. During this time, DelDOT’s contractor George & Lynch, Inc., will work on the Route 1 southbound exit to U.S. Route 113 southbound. The contractor will perform concrete patching, placement of an ultrathin overlay and a full width asphalt overlay.

The work is anticipated to be complete by Monday, October 5, pending weather.

At all times, all businesses on Route 113/North DuPont Boulevard will remain OPEN during the closure of the Route 113 Northbound Overpass.
