Since opening in 2014, Hometown Diner has offered a breakfast buffet on weekends at their 611 North Dupont Highway location. Recently, they have also added a dinner buffet on Friday and Saturday nights.
“This is our regular menu buffet,” said Gomez, the son of owner Ali Gocmez who works as the manager of the restaurant. “It is an American buffet, not a seafood buffet, which we tried for a short time not long after we opened.” Gomez says that the food on the buffet is prepared by his father who has spent 20 years in the restaurant business.
Ali Gocmez took over the restaurant from another family member who wanted to get out of the business. Gomez says that his family immigrated from Turkey in 1999 and his father worked in kitchens after arriving in the United States. He said that he had performed almost every duty there was in a restaurant kitchen, starting out washing dishes and working his way up to head chef. Hometown Diner is the first restaurant Mr. Gocmez has owned, although he worked in other family-owned restaurants in the area.
Despite being raised in Turkey, Mr. Gocmez specializes in cooking American food. Everything served at Hometown Diner is cooked to order and created from his own recipes. In addition to regular menu items, Hometown Diner offers daily specials that are found inside the menu each day. The servers also inform customers what the specials are for that day.
“We also offer senior and military discounts,” Gomez said. “There is a sign on the table that customers can use with their smartphone to have coupons sent to them in their email as well. In addition, all of our desserts or baked in-house from my father’s own recipes.”
The restaurant seats 500 people and Gomez says they welcome large parties and special events. The restaurant focuses on providing food that is similar to home-cooked meals in a family atmosphere.
Hometown Diner is open Monday through Friday from 6 am until 10 pm. Their menu is available online at their website, hometowndinerde.com.
