Starting a new year this October, MilfordLIVE.com is celebrating its fifth year as a media business in Milford, DE. With over 260 Weekly Reviews, 5,000 articles and 600 photo galleries, MilfordLIVE.com has covered what it means to experience life in Milford. Providing a in-depth look at the events and issues that effect residents and visitors, the business has created an online community where all ideas can be shared.
The first issue of The Weekly Review featured the Grand Opening of the Milford Central Academy school and the Milford Community Parade. Since then, the Weekly Review has delivered weekly news on community events, education, business, government, culture and local sports. With a new rebranding effort at the beginning of 2015, the business updated it’s logo, created a new design for The Weekly Review and website as well as instituted measures to become more mobile friendly. Beginning with a list of one hundred readers, MilfordLIVE.com now shares their news and information with thousands of Kent and Sussex residents every day.
Created by locals Bryan Shupe ands Dave Burris in 2010, writer Terry Rogers joined the team in 2011 as the lead community reporter on the streets of Milford. She soon became a local favorite helping community organizations spread awareness for their causes, bringing businesses a new market to advertise and keeping residents informed on their state and local government. Writing hundreds of local news stories, Terry has enjoyed “learning more about the people and events that make Milford a great city.”
“I like that we report both sides of every story and that our stories tend to be upbeat and positive rather than focusing on the negative things that exist in the world. I enjoy finding the history of events, places and people we write about,” said Rogers. “Since I grew up in Milford, it has been a pleasure to get to know some of the town leaders that I remember hearing about as a child on a more personal level. I have also been able to learn a lot about the history of the town and share that knowledge with others through Milford Live.”
Terry is also a member of the Greater Milford Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Ambassador Committee, the Riverwalk Committee and the Girl’s Night Out Committee. She is a Commissioner for the Milford Museum and also serves on the Milford Historical Preservation Committee under Downtown Milford Inc.
Sports writer and photographer Kevin Eickman joined the MilfordLIVE.com team in 2012 and added a necessary and much desired component to the company as he introduced full coverage of Milford sports. Writing hundreds of sports stories while taking thousands of photos of local athletes in action, Eickman has enjoyed “attending so many games and watching how the youth of Milford develop over time.”
“For me that’s what it is all about. After all, these are the youth of our community and when they improve we are all better for it. It’s great to see how the athletes mature and develop as citizens, becoming more confident and growing from players into leaders,” said Eickman. “The greatest part of covering sports, is getting to see how great the students are. Seeing the respect with which they treat parents, adults, teammates and competitors is great to see.”
At the beginning of 2015, Sara Pletcher joined the MilfordLIVE.com team as she helped develop a new design for The Weekly Review and advertisements for marketing partners. Her presence has brought a new focus on keeping the business involved in the community as she has helped expand its reach with Milford events through several organizations.
“I never imagined I’d still be designing newspapers all these years later, but MilfordLIVE is a great outlet to utilize skills I learned at Milford High School and ultimately give back to the community that supported me then. I like when things come full circle,” said Pletcher. “Getting to read the headlines a day before everyone else is pretty neat too.” Sara is also involved with Downtown Milford, Inc. Promotions Committee, St. John the Apostle Church Parish Council and March of Dimes – DE Chapter as well as the organizer for the Annual Toasting the Town: St. Patrick’s Pub Crawl and the Brewgrass Music Festival on the Mispillion River.
